La forma negativa dei verbi regolari ed irregolari, come anche per il verbo TO HAVE, richiede l'uso dell'ausiliare DOES per la terza persona e DO per le altre, seguendo il seguente schema:

SOGGETTO + DON'T / DOESN'T + infinito senza TO.

I don't work

you don't work

he doesn't work

it doesn't work

we don't work

you don't work

they don't work

Nella forma negativa l'avverbio di frequenza si trova sempre prima del verbo principale.

Esempio.

Non giochiamo spesso a tennis - We don't ofter play tennis.

Quando in una frase c'è l'avverbio NEVER che esprime negazione  non si richiede l'uso di DO/DOES.

Esempio.

Susanna non fuma mai - Susan never smokes.
